TARGETS Make sure that you edit the brightness and contrast BEFORE you do any more complicated edits. You must do what I ask in the red comments. Screen grab complicated Photoshop techniques. When you write about your own work (www and ebi) you need to look more closely and work out exactly what it is that you do well and what needs to be improved. At the moment you always write the same thing. The best place to start is the aims of the task. Do you meet the success criteria? Keep on top of the analysis of other photographers- use the sentence starters to help you.
First response to Fragments
Nadav Kander
“Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? ...That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere, and that the present only exists for it, without the shadow of the future?” - Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
In 2015, Nadav Kander began hotographing the Thames Estuary as a point of transition between the River Thames and the sea, He has created atmospheric images of its slow-moving dark waters and infinite horizons.
My First ideas
In this first set of images I wanted to show 'Fragments' by photographing how the water moved and how it fragmented the environment. .

Patrick Cornillet
Fragmented Buildings
Patrick Cornillet's is painter. Cornillet paints everyday buildings with no background and parts of the structure were missing. He draws attention to parts of the buildings and chooses to represent to do institutional concrete buildings.
In this task I have to respond to the work to cornillet. What I need to think about when taking photos: Focusing Make sure it's good composition Good exposure

WWW: what went well is that it is photographed from the corner and well exposed. I controlled the polygonal lasso tool well. EBI: I didn't leave another space around the building.
Mauren Brodbeck
Mauren Brodbeck photographs office buildings and car parks and has colours on some parts of the buildings. He edits them so we can't recall what they look like and they leave a mental blank.
UH-OH PROBLEM- WE NEED TO FIX THIS SO THAT THE CORRECT PHOTOS ARE HERE.

WWW: What went well is that it is in focus. EBI: the exposure could've been better.
Chris Killip: A Retrospective
Chris Killip photographed people in the north of England. He wanted to document the lives of those affected by the economic downturn of the 70s and 80s. Killip lived with the communities he photographed. He saw the togetherness of communities and the industries that sustained them. He stayed with them until he witnessed their loss . He described the people in the deindustrialised north as having had history done to them.
The girl playing in abandoned waste land. In the image i can see lots of rubbish, a washing line, a chair and a burnt out fire. The girl is playing with a hula hoop in a horrible area, it's normal for her.
The man in this image looks strong because of the way he's standing in front of the door looking straight at the camera. He fills the frame and he looks like the same texture of the frame walls.
The three words I would use to describe this image are depressed, angry and lonely. This one boy reflects how the whole community felt.
Half Term Homework(Laurence Demaison)
Laurence Demaison work is about the movement of the water, the tiny bubbles that develop create small ''magnifying glasses''.It was interesting to read that Demaison uses her own body in all of her work since 1993 up until 2010 when she began a new series using a baby as the focal figure. Demaison had this to say about using herself as the model for her work.

Explain how you created the images on the sellotape. What were you trying to achieve?

WWW: I managed to photograph the face in the water droplets. EBI: Even better if the focus was even better so that the face was clearer. What's next: Repeat this process with photographs at home. Also, the tape was too thin so I might try with a piece of glass instead or have the tape further away.

JR: Portrait of a Generation
2005 French Riots
The photos were all taken in a run-down suburb in the east of Paris called Les Bosquets.
In 2005 two teenagers were electrocuted in this suburb whilst hiding from the police.
This led to an eruption of riots that lasted three weeks, during which time the authorities lost control for several days.
The newspapers and TV portrayed the people of this area in a certain way and the government targeted the young people in these areas and blamed them for the riots.
JR's Response
JR wanted to take back the identity and the stories of the people that lived in Les Bosquets
JR took around 6-8 photos of each person making menacing, funny or silly faces.
These were done with a 28mm lens – meaning that they were really close up.
He then printed the contact sheet and asked the model which one they wanted him to use.
He blew up the image they chose and pasted them in the area where the riots took place.
How did you respond to JR? Why have you moved away from the water droplets?
